Trusting God’s Ways

February 9, 2021 By Harold Long 1 Comment

You stand at the turning point every day of your life; which way do you choose to go? Do you trust in God’s ways or your ways? Every day is a new day; because of free will, a new decision must be made. In our readings for today, Jesus is attempting to teach those who have ears to hear that one day this earthly life will be over, and the fullness of the kingdom will be present and at your doorstep. If you are not prepared, then the opportunity to live in eternity in the kingdom will quickly pass, the lights will go out, and life will cease to exist. On the other hand, if you take the kingdom life seriously now, you will be in eternity with the Lord along with all the kingdom folks who went before you.

Our reading in the Gospel of Matthew gives us two parables for which to discern. The first being the Parable of the Ten Young Bridesmaids. In this parable, Jesus is letting us know that living this earthly life without preparation for the next is not only foolish but has eternal consequences.

The next parable is the Parable of the Valuable Coins. In this parable, Jesus is sharing how foolish it is not to be fully invested in the kingdom. To be lazy in this life has grave consequences for the next.

When you stand at the turning point, you can choose wisely or recklessly. What is your choice to be? I hope you choose wisely, it will make a big difference in this life and the kingdom life to come.

Scripture Readings

  • Exodus 29:1-30:38
  • Psalm 20:6-9
  • Proverbs 7:6-23
  • Matthew 25:1-30

Reflection Questions

  1. What did you take away from today’s reflection and scripture readings?
  2. How did you relate the parable of the young bridesmaids?
  3. How did you relate to the parable of the valuable coins?
  4. Are you prepared for the day you meet the Lord?
  5. What must a person do to be saved?
  6. Would you consider yourself a lazy person?

Prayer

Lord, I want to be fully ready for life to come after death. I want to be prepared for eternity. Lord, I know your ways have an eternal purpose; please give me the strength and humility to put my trust in Your ways always and forever. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will and not mine be done now and in eternity. Amen

Amen!! Prepare for the visit to our Savior who gave his life for my sins. It’s like a light switch and we must prepare for that day now! Yours in Christ! AMEN!!
