The Language of the Heart

February 14, 2021 By Harold Long Leave a Comment

“Let us always love the best in others—and never fear their worst.” ~ William G. Wilson

This morning in Missouri, it feels like Iceland. Did you know there are only 343,353 who call Iceland home? It’s a fascinating country that does wonders for its residents. Their literacy rate is 100%; think about how incredible that is. Another striking statistic is that 10% of their population will become a published author. Lastly, every child learns to speak four languages, Icelandic and English being two of them. Words, reading, conversation, and language are essential to the great people of Iceland.

Do you know more than one language?

Have you ever wanted to speak another language?

In the world of the Spirit, there is the language called the “Language of the Heart.”

Do you speak this language?

The language of the heart can only happen when the Spirit of God is alive inside you. You may say, “well, I am an atheist or agnostic; I don’t have this Spirit you speak of living inside of me, but yet I have the capacity for love.” If that be the case, is it possible that the Creator of the universe gifted you the ability to love and possess faith, despite your disbelief? Though flawed, human beings can love and believe because it’s embedded in their nature, so, therefore, a gift from the Creator.

The language of the heart is born out of living a life of extreme self-centeredness. This way of life creates a lot of wreckage for everyone in your path, including yourself. If you are fortunate, before you reach the point of no return, you finally come to the end of yourself. It’s at that moment of surrender that you become teachable. You start to develop the capacity, to be honest, open-minded, and willing to embrace spiritual principles. It’s a new way of living, a design for living that works. Who makes that possible? God makes that possible.

From your dark past of great pain and sorrow comes healing and reconciliation. You have finally surrendered and discover that the Spirit of God has been pursuing your all along. Through your surrender, you are reborn and made right with God. For the rest of your life, you learn to live in a world of the Spirit, growing in understanding and effectiveness one day at a time. This journey heals your soul, and you begin to develop a second language, the language of the heart.

From your personal experience, strength, hope, and the Spirit of God dwelling inside your soul, you now begin to speak the language of the heart. The language of the heart is understood and received through identification, attraction, and authenticity. The journey you now embark on introduces you to countless broken souls who can’t relate to anyone in the world because nobody understands them when they speak from a state of hopelessness. But then along comes you, and that bright spark between two like-minded souls is born. The language of the heart now begins to speak. You witness firsthand the Spirit of God at work, as the Spirit breathes new life into a dead soul, and then the miraculous happens, the impossible becomes possible, taking place right before your eyes. It’s an experience you do not want to miss and only made possible from the language of the heart.

On this Valentine’s day, I hope this devotion finds you living in the world of the Spirit and hopefully living out the double commandment of loving God and your neighbor. You must have the Spirit of God dwelling inside you to be able to love the way God loves. Agape love, or if you wish, unconditional love is born from above and exists only inside the heart of a believer. Those who speak the language of the heart have the duty and privilege to share it with those who still suffer; failure to do so is nothing short of gross negligence.

My Creator, on this Valentine’s day, I pray for You to dwell in my heart. Please help me, love, as You love and share the good news, the language of the heart, with anyone whom I am privileged to walk shoulder to shoulder along the path of happy destiny. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will and not mine be done now and forever. Amen.
