The Irrational Ways of God

March 31, 2021 By Harold Long Leave a Comment

“God is an unchangeable changer, unadjustable adjuster, unmoveable mover, unpredictable predictor, unstoppable stopper, uninvisible visible, and wonderful wonder.” ~ Osunsakin Adewale

How rational is it that there is no consensus on how the world came into being? Who God is, and if God even exists? How reasonable is it that human beings, by default, think primarily of themselves, seek self-gratification at the expense of others, and destroy each other daily? None of this is rational; it is horrendous. How is it reasonable that humanity has inherited a sinful nature because of humanity’s fall (Genesis 3:15)? How sensible is it for predominantly Christian nations to be at war, especially since Jesus was a peacemaker? And what about Christians being more invested in the world system than the kingdom of God? How rational is that?

Humanity is in a sorry state because of sin and because the vast majority of people attempt to live their life without God. The only rational response to an irrational world is to repent and turn toward God. To dye to yourself and give your life to the kingdom of God. God’s ways seem unreasonable in your fallen state, but when you repent and embrace the grace of God, you start to experience holiness. God’s irrational ways start to become rational when you embrace God’s truth and commit to living the Kingdom life. The world is a scary place, but not forever. God promised the world that heaven would be restored on earth, and God always keeps His promises. You may not watch it come to fruition in this life, but you will watch it materialize. Our job as kingdom people on this side of heaven is to help usher in God’s kingdom. Not by acts of war, politics, or pursuing power and glory for ourselves, but by living a life of love and service.

Scripture Readings

Lord, Your ways are a mystery to me and seem irrational in so many ways. Please help me see myself for what I am apart from You. Remove from me the disease of sin that clouds my mind and causes me to questions everything, including You. Please grant me the humility and willingness to repent of my sinful ways. Allow me to embrace Your holiness for the rest of my life entirely. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will not mine, always materialize, now and forever, Amen.
