The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

August 16, 2021 By Harold Long Leave a Comment

“You See In This World There’s Two Kinds Of People, My Friend – Those With Loaded Guns, And Those Who Dig. You Dig.” ~ Clint Eastwood, a.k.a. Blondie

One day at a time, we trudge through life, attempting to practice spiritual principles in all of our affairs. Living the spiritual life requires much sacrifice, and sometimes our faith can waver when we witness good things happening to bad people, while people of faith sometimes struggle. It can cause one to question if it’s even worth trying to live a spiritual life. Why attempt to be obedient to God’s word when secularism seems to payoff mightily for the good, the bad, and the ugly?

To live a spiritual life, we need to live in a community with like-minded people who live along spiritual lines. When surrounded by fellow believers obedient to spiritual principles, they help hold us accountable to God’s Word and see the illusion with clarity that secularism puts off. Fellow believers remind us that “true happiness” is found by living a God-centered life, despite our present circumstances. The world system and the principalities and powers of this world promise happiness but deliver misery; they promise life but produce death.

Are you struggling to understand why bad people experience good things or vice versa; why bad things happen to good people? The truth is there is no explanation on this side of eternity, but one day God will answer all of life’s troubling questions.

Scripture reminds us:

12 Now, we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. (1 Corinthians 13:12 — New Living Translation (NLT))

God of all creation. There is so much mystery in this world. The wicked character of some people and the darkness manifested in various ways throughout the world are troubling to understand. Why bad things happen to good people seems unjust. Then, whom am I to know who and what is good. Today it’s a mystery, but one day You will reveal the reason behind our questions so that we can make sense of it all. Would you please grant me the willingness to be in a community with like-minded believers and help my faith to remain strong so that I can focus on living a God-centered life? In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will not mine always materialize, now and forever. Amen.
