The Essence of Joy

March 18, 2021 By Harold Long Leave a Comment

“Joy is the infallible sign of the presence of God.” ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Joy means the essence of God lives in our hearts. This joyful condition of the heart is why God created humankind. God created us to enjoy God through our commitment to become entirely devoted followers of Jesus Christ. To fully live the kingdom life is to have our cup runneth over with joy and gratitude because we know if it were not for the grace of God, the invitation to live the kingdom life would not be possible. Unless we are fully committed to God’s spiritual principles, the essence of Joy will elude us. Joy is only possible in the presence of God. We may experience moments of happiness when things go our way, but happiness is not joy. Happiness is a by-product of our circumstances, and Joy is a by-product of Christ living in us and us living in Christ.

Scripture Readings

  • Numbers 33:1-34:29

  2. How is Joy present in your life?
  3. Why do we confuse happiness with Joy?
  4. How do you explain joy to another person?
  5. What does the essence of Joy mean?
  6. Why did God create human beings?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for creating humankind. Thank you for allowing me to experience Your joy in my heart. Today I turn my life over to You and ask You to remove anything that prohibits me from participating in Your influence for my life. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will not mine be done always and forever, Amen.
