“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” ~ Confucius
From the moment we learn to walk, we discover what it means to fall. We fall in all kinds of ways. We fall physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. We say things like “I have fallen out of touch with reality, ” or “I have fallen off the spiritual beam,” or “I have fallen, and I can’t get up.” Depending on how hard we fall will determine if we can rise again. Sometimes when people fall, they are badly crippled; other times, they are beyond the point of no return, and sadly sometimes they perish altogether.
We are fortunate to have others reach out their hand when we fall. Hopefully, when we reflect on our lives, we can compile a pretty extensive list of people who had helped us when we were down. It’s easy to take for granted the many hands that have been there to catch us when we have fallen. There are no surer hands than the hands of God. God is always in a position to catch us when we fall. Unfortunately, time and again, many of us have slapped the hands of God away. Our stubbornness and rebellious attitudes have kept us from accepting help, especially from the hands of God.
God loved us so much that He was willing to give up his own Son so that humanity could rise once again. Jesus accepted the calling and willingly gave up His physical life for ours. Jesus came down so we could rise up. God’s hands are always reaching out to us; all we have to is grab a hold and hang on. Because of God’s extraordinary sacrifice, we not only have victory over spiritual death, but we also have victory over our hurts, habits, and hang-ups. By accepting God’s invitation to dwell inside our soul, we are no longer in bondage to ourselves and the principalities and powers of this world.
If you are reading this devotional in a fallen state, there is tremendous hope for you. God loves you and desires nothing more than for you to rise up and take ahold of His hand as He guides you to the promised land. Despite your flaws, you are one of God’s kids, and now it’s time to start living like it. As you approach Father’s Day, you must remember that your heavenly Father will never let you down. God’s greatest hope is for you to rise up and enjoy the showers of His grace, mercy, and love.
God of rescue, raising, and healing, thank You for sending Your only Son to save this world so that we may rise in victory over death and the powers of darkness. Please remove the obstacles that cause us to fall away and prevent us from taking Your hand. Because You are a good good Father, we are privileged to live a good good life for eternity. Today we pray for those still lost and living in a fallen state and pray that they may soon rise to know You as their Father who art in heaven. In Your Spirit and Name, we pray these things. May Your will not ours always materialize, now and forever. Amen.
