Raised By Goats

On January 11, 2021, the National College Football Championship was played between Alabama and Ohio State. A game in which Alabama won 52-24. During the first half aired a commercial from Ford Motor Company promoting the all-new Bronco Sport G.O.A.T. that gives its owners 4×4 offroad capabilities. The commercial tells the story of a colt being discovered in the rugged mountains and raised by goats. It is a humorous and heartfelt story, leaving the viewer wondering where the story was going. In the end, the colt turns into a Bronco, and of course, the all-new Ford Bronco G.O.A.T. comes cruising out of a cave inside the mountains. This commercial is one of three in a series. G.O.A.T. was the original internal code name for the ’66 Bronco project: Goes Over All Terrain.

The commercial delivers a Tarzan like plot with a colt being raised by a herd of goats. Not a natural story, but a story that won the hearts of millions of viewers. America is on the brink of another Civil War. People are fearful, angry, resentful, and ready to burst given all the pressure the pandemic, social unrest, and political division has created. Goats and colts are creatures that usually do not mix, but none the less they deliver an uplifting moment that we all needed. America needs to pause and take a deep breath.

I think we can all agree that America is in dire straits and desperate for a spiritual awakening. The current landscape looks bleak, and it seems like a hopeless state of affairs to overcome. BUT GOD’S NOT DEAD! Reconciliation and healing are always possible if all the parties engaged in conflict humble themselves, turn toward God, confess their faults, seek forgiveness from those they have harmed, and grant forgiveness to those who have harmed them. We all love our country, but we won’t have a nation much longer if we don’t get serious about changing it for the wellbeing of all Americans and those coming behind us.

God, we continue to plead for You to continue to bless America and our future. We know nothing is impossible when our troubles are turned over to You. Please grant each of us the willingness to lay aside our politics, resentments, isms, and phobias, and focus our attention on the unification of all people. Allow America to become a beacon of light for other countries to aspire, now until the end of the age when You restore heaven on earth. In Your Spirit and Name, we pray these things. Amen.
