Retire from the world each day to some private spot. Stay in the secret place till the surrounding noises begin to fade out of your heart, and a sense of God’s presence envelops you. Deliberately tune out the unpleasant sounds and come out of your closet, determined not to hear them. Listen for the inward voice till you learn to recognize it. ~ Aiden Wilson Tozer
Do you have a secret place for you to go to be with God? Possibly a prayer closet, a devotional room, space by the fireplace, a certain chair with a view, the deck, etc.? If you don’t have a special place, why not? You can’t use the excuse you can’t find one! When love was brand new, you found a place to meet your favorite boy or girl every chance you could. You always found the time and a place to gather with your friends. You are without excuse. God has made a special place for you in the kingdom. God has a special role for you in the kingdom. It’s time now for you to find that secret place, that special place, where you can go as often as possible to be one on one with God.
The greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. ~ Roald Dahl
One of the greatest measures of where you are spiritually is, what are you doing when no one else is looking? Being alone with His Father was important for Jesus, so it’s must become important for us as kingdom people too. Jesus instructs us to spend time in our secret place and go there often to discover the hidden promises of God:
6 But when you pray, go to your room, shut the door, and pray to your Father, who is present in that secret place. Your Father, who sees what you do in secret, will reward you (Matthew 6:6 CEB).
Maybe you already have a secret place, if yes, good for you. Beware that humans become creatures of habit, and when habits form over time, they can become nothing more than a habitual routine instead of a passionate and intimate time with God. It might be time to mix it up a bit, discover a new secret place and change up what you read, how you meditate, and how you pray. This practice can ignite a fire under you when you weren’t even aware the fire was going out.

Prayer
Lord, I pray for honesty, open-mindedness, and willingness to discover my secret place and the desire to go there often. Lord, I seek wisdom and understanding for my entire being. Your words remind me of the promises that come only in secret and alone with You. Please grant me grace and forgiveness for not spending time with You in secret. I know You wait for me all of the time; the ball is in my court. Remove from me all the thoughts and obstacles that compete for the time I need to be spending with You in secret.
