Momma Knows

May 9, 2021 By Harold Long Leave a Comment

“It’s not easy being a mother. If it were, fathers would do it.” – Golden Girls

There was a show on tv in black and white from 1954-1960 on CBS called “Father’s Know Best.” Fathers may know what’s best in most cases, but mothers know best in all cases, and mothers know everything. Can I get a witness?

Here is a shortlist of what Mommas know:

  • Regardless of what the hurt or what the ache, mom has a remedy for it. Please let us never forget that mom’s spit is more powerful than hydrogen peroxide and 409 combined.
  • Mom’s know when you are faking being sick and how pathetic of actors and actresses we genuinely are. Nobody ever won a Grammy for pretending to be sick with mom around.
  • Mom knows how to jump into Super Hero mode when duty calls. Whether it be killing a spider, cleaning up vomit, changing a nasty diaper, or dealing with a wild animal, mom has a cape for it. My mother once ran a possum off the back porch by pouring boiling water on the porch and letting it run down under the possum’s feet; that’s genius right there.
  • Moms always know when something is bothering you. You can attempt to say you are fine and pretend everything is okay, but mommas know when something is up.
  • Mothers always know when you are up to no good. I was busted so many times by Sherlock “Momma” Holmes. Rarely can we slip something past mom, even when they are reserved; trust me, they know.
  •  Moms know how to multitask like nobody’s business. They can fold clothes, talk on the phone, bake, vacuum, and watch tv all at the same time.
  • Moms have x-ray and surveillance camera eyes. They can see what you are doing in the other room and what you are trying to pull off behind their backs; it’s unbelievable what moms know and can do.

Let’s face it, friends, moms are magic, and moms are special.

We lost our mom in 2015, and there is not a day that goes by that none of us don’t miss her. She was the rock and leader of our family. Mom gave us many lessons and blessings and helped shaped every one of us in some unique way.

Do you know what’s great? As incredible as mothers are, God is even greater. Mother’s love us in a way that seems unmatchable, but moms can only love the way moms do because God first loved moms. Our mothers will always love us, regardless of our choices, but certain conditions can cause moms to struggle, draw boundaries, or separate themselves altogether. God’s love is truly unconditional; irrespective of our hurts, habits, and hang-ups, God always says “I love you” and “welcome home.”

Many never knew their mother, or their mother fell victim to their character defects and became unfit and unavailable to be the mother they needed. The best news ever is that God is available to us all; without exception, all we must do is say “yes” to the relationship. If you have never asked God into your heart, I can’t think of a better day to accept God’s invitation than Mother’s Day. Accepting God’s invitation will be the best decision you will ever make, and all moms will agree and support your decision to do just that.

God of all mothers, thank You for all the moms because, without them, we would never experience life or have the chance to know You. On this Mother’s Day, we ask for special blessings over all the moms of the past, present, and future. May this day be one that none of us ever forget. Please remove any selfishness that would get in the way of making this a fabulous day for the mothers in our lives. In Your Spirit and Name, we pray these things. May Your will not ours always materialize, now and forever. Amen.
