Little Ol’ Me

April 9, 2021 By Harold Long Leave a Comment

“Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.” ~ Oscar Wilde

Most people feel inferior in varying degrees. We all have things about ourselves we wish were different. Some people think there are too short or too tall, while others wish they weren’t so heavy or thin. We all have features we wish were different, whether it’s our skin, complexion, size, weight, teeth, ears, hair, nose, chin (or the ol’ double chin), feet, etc. Think about how many times you have fantasized about being someone other than yourself, whether a musician, vocalist, actor or actress, model, rock star, wealthy entrepreneur, athlete, superhero, etc. We constantly compare ourselves to others, and when we do, we lose every single time.

When we catch ourselves wishing we were different, we must remember our Creator and discover why God created little ol’ us. We are all a part of the greater whole. Each of us has different aspects and qualities that make up our entire being. Without these unique features and qualities, we wouldn’t be our true selves. God made us special for a reason, and when we commit to discovering who that person is, we will find our real purpose. God as one purpose, God’s eternal purpose (Ephesians 3:9-13). Different parts of the body have different roles to play in fulfilling God’s purpose. We are one part of a great whole. The whole is not complete without each of us. Each of us matters, and if God created us, then we must be valuable because God doesn’t make junk.

How can you grow in understanding and effectiveness being little ol’ you?

Lord, Thank You for creating little ol’ me. There have been many times I wished I were different or someone else altogether, but today I strive to be grateful for who You created me to be. Please remove any negative self-talk or fantasy that robs me of being me and prohibits me from carrying our Your will for my life. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will not mine always materialize, now and forever. Amen.
