“Grace is thickly counter-intuitive. It feels risky and unfair. It’s dangerous and disorderly. It wrestles control out of our hands. It is wild and unsettling. It turns everything that makes sense to us upside-down and inside-out.” ~ Tullian Tchividjian
When we look closely at the world, including our own life, we can’t help but notice the many imperfections, isms, and phobias. It’s a typical human response to point to people, places, and things outside ourselves as the root cause of all the world’s problems, including our own. But, unfortunately, this sort of twisted perception leads to nothing more than blame, rationalization, and justification for our selfish attitudes and behaviors. Therefore, the solution must materialize from inside ourselves, which means we must become the change the world craves.
God gave us the remedy for all the troubles in the world when God gave us the love command: love God, love others, change the world. Unfortunately, the principalities and powers that influence our subconscious suggest we look outside ourselves for both the problem and the solution. This sort of thinking leads to the “us vs. them” mentality prevalent in our society. To administer the love command correctly, we must understand that change is only possible from the inside out, not outside in. It’s not about how the world needs to change but what needs to change in us that will make all the difference in the world. We must take the lead for the love command to materialize.
What will you do to help lead the love revolution our world desperately needs?
What changes need to take place in you for this to happen?
Imagine what the world would look like if we all truly lived by God’s love command.
God of love, thank You for giving us the love command. You have given us the secret to living the best life possible, and yet we louse it up. Please forgive our selfish ways, and remove the scales of delusion from our eyes. God, help us realize that change is only possible from within and stop looking outside ourselves to blame, justify, and rationalize our rotten attitudes and behaviors. In Your Spirit and Name, we pray these things. May Your will not ours always materialize, now and forever. Amen.
