Have you ever fantasized about being invisible? What would you do if you could be invisible for a day? It’s hard to be invisible physically. We can be out of sight and out of mind from society, but it’s impossible to be invisible to God. God always knows our heart, whereabouts, and present circumstances.
When practicing spiritual disciplines, e.g., fasting, God instructs us to go to extraordinary measures to hide what we are doing and become spiritually invisible from the world and the people in our circles. In biblical times God even commanded people to wash their face and apply oil to their skin to hide the physical changes that often happen while fasting. This action went a long way in helping keep their spiritual fast invisible and authentic.
Glorifying God and making private sacrifices for God’s sake is a definite sign of spiritual maturity. Practicing loving your neighbor and remaining invisible is a real test of your faith. A wise person once said, “Do something nice for somebody today, and if you get caught, it doesn’t count.” It’s imperative to remember that making braggadocious comments or staging grandiose performances nullify any spiritual action on your part.
¹Dear Father,
All praise, honor, and glory belong to You, our immortal, invisible, only true and living God.
You are the revealer of all mysteries and the source of all wisdom and knowledge. In You are all the secrets of the universe, yet You grant us to know the mysteries of Your kingdom. You reveal the deep things of the darkness and bring utter darkness into light.
Thank You for hearing us when we pray and for giving us understanding when we ask You for sending Your Word to us and entrusting us with Your truth.
We praise you for revealing the true knowledge of God’s mystery, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Like You responded to Daniel, Lord, send Your word to give us understanding.
In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will and not mine be done now and forever.
Amen
