Goodbye Old Self

March 7, 2021 By Harold Long Leave a Comment

God is not against us because of our sin. God is with us against our sin. ~ Anonymous

Jesus told the adulterous woman to leave and sin no more (John 7:53-8:11). Is it even possible to go and sin no more? If you were without sin, would you even desire to be with God? Is it possible the reason God hasn’t removed all your sin is so you do rely on God? The apostle Paul said he had a thorn in his side that God wouldn’t remove (2 Corinthians 12:7-9).

If we are to live effectively in the world of the Spirit, then we will need God’s help. A great friend and mentor, Lewis Trotter, once told me, “God didn’t drag you out of the ocean to drown you in the bathtub.” With God’s living inside us, we can overcome the power of sin in our lives and become conduits for God’s unwavering love.

Jesus told the woman to go and sin no more because there is a better way to live. A new life that is full of God’s promises. As Jesus instructed the woman, He instructs us. Say goodbye to your old self and be reborn from above.

Dear Lord, I put on the full armor of God so that I can successfully stand against the wiles of the devil. My struggle isn’t against flesh and blood but principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in supernatural places. I will no longer submit to my sinful acts, but I dress with the complete armor of God so I will resist such desires. Thank You, Lord, Amen.
