God’s Sovereign Hand

February 7, 2021 By Harold Long Leave a Comment

Throughout our readings for today, the subject of the heart and faith are the central themes. Do not let your hearts be troubled is a consistent biblical response we hear from God because of our lack of belief.¹ We say we believe, but do we? When we are placed into the oven of adversity, the shell we attempt to hide under is melted away, and our soul is exposed for God and the world to see.

Jesus makes it clear that darkness is all around us, and we will experience horrific darkness in this world until His kingdom is restored on earth as it is in heaven. God’s sovereign hand is in control. Because of the cross and resurrection, God claimed victory over darkness and death. When God wins, we all win. Despite the many heartaches we will experience living as kingdom people, we must know that God’s grace, love, mercy, and protection are with us and will totally prevail in the end.

Scripture Readings

  • Exodus 25:1-26:37
  • Psalm 19:7-14
  • Proverbs 6:32-35
  • Matthew 24:1-28

Reflection Questions

  1. What did you take away from today’s reflection and scripture readings?
  2. Do you fear trouble?
  3. How have you been persecuted as a Christian living for the kingdom?
  4. Is there love in your heart? Where did it come from?
  5. How has your sexual conduct caused you to lack wisdom and understanding?
  6. Is Jesus Christ your Master? Does your prayer life validate your response?

Prayer

My Creator, life is full of trials and tribulations. Please grant me the faith to be wise and fearless when experiencing darkness, especially when Your sovereign hand is sheltering me. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will and not mine be done now and forever. Amen.
