God’s Calling On Your Life

January 6, 2021 By Harold Long Leave a Comment

God did not direct His call to Isaiah— Isaiah overheard God saying, “. . . who will go for Us?” The call of God is not just for a select few but for everyone. Whether I hear God’s call or not depends on my ears’ condition, and exactly what I hear depends upon my spiritual attitude. ~ Oswald Chambers

Wow, Oswald Chambers nails it. We all have a call from God on our lives, whether we believe it or not. It’s imperative to understand that it’s not a self-centered calling (my call); the calling is to live into God’s eternal purpose, not our own purpose. The majority of us struggle to recognize the call because we get lost in the lust for worldly things. Our calling becomes deluded by worldly clamors, e.g., politics, power, glory, economics, prestige, etc.

As kingdom people, it’s easy to get lost and lose our zeal to live out God’s call.  The longer this goes on, the willingness to express our faith can become compromised. Every person stands alone with God and will experience God in their own way. God calls each of us to step out in faith, seeking only to carry God’s will in the present and not our own.

Each one of us has some vocation. We are all called by God to share in His life and His Kingdom. Each one of us is called to a special place in the Kingdom. If we find that place, we will be happy. If we do not find it, we can never be completely happy. For each one of us, there is only one thing necessary: to fulfill our own destiny, according to God’s will, to be what God wants us to be. ~ Thomas Merton

If you doubt that there is a God or that God has an eternal purpose and calling on your life, then please ponder this scientific reality. These parts of your body are unique only to you. Nobody before you or after you will ever have these prints; consider them your spiritual birthmark and physical evidence God created you and that there is a spiritual calling on your life. You are so special that God never created anyone like you ever before, nor will God do so in the future. Here are the personal prints unique only to you:¹

  • Iris (eye muscle)
  • Ear Print
  • Lip Print
  • Tongue Print
  • Voice
  • Toe Print
  • Teeth
  • Retina
  • Gait (your strut/walk)
  • Finger Print

Friends, this is exciting news; the only thing left is for you to live into God’s calling on your life. If you have been listening to atheists or agnostics about how the world works, the purpose of life, and the myth of God, please do yourself a favor and limit your association or stop altogether. The ironic thing about atheists and agnostics is that they are always talking about God. There is all the evidence in the world for God and all the evidence that you were created by God, for a relationship with God, and to live into God’s eternal purpose.

Scripture Readings

  • Genesis 11:1-12:20
  • Psalm 4:1-3
  • Proverbs 1:28-33
  • Matthew 5:27-48

Reflection Questions

  1. What did you take away from today’s reflection and scripture readings?
  2. Did you know that God has called you?
  3. When did God call you?
  4. In what ways have you sequestered the call on your life?
  5. What is one step you can take right away to answer the call?
  6. What might you have to give up to live into your faith and answer God’s call on your life?

Prayer

Lord, I am humbled that You consider me worthy to be called to accomplish Your eternal purpose here on earth. Help me respond without hesitation when calling me into spiritual action. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray, Amen.
