Free Yard Sale

June 27, 2021 By Harold Long Leave a Comment

“The best things in life are free” ~ Luther Vandross

Is there anything better than being free from your hurts, habits, and hang-ups in life? How about getting something for free? I know countless people who will do just about anything to get something for free, including me. The word “free” is liberating and provides a feeling of justice. When you work your tail off for an extended period, it’s nice to get something for free finally.

Recently a dear friend had a yard sale to get rid of useless stuff that he had been hoarding for who knows how long. Early on during his yard sale, he found himself haggling over fifty cents, and the stress of all that didn’t seem worth it, so it went from trying to make a measly profit to giving it all away for free and ended up having a lot of fun doing so.

The best thing in life that we can both receive and give away for free is called love. A God of love created us, and God’s love is free. We don’t deserve God’s love, and we definitely can’t earn it; God gives it because that’s who God is. God gives us commandments to live by because God loves us and has our best interest at heart. The most important of those commandments is to love God in return, love others as we love ourselves, and always share our love for free and for fun, so we can help change the world and experience God’s joy in the process.

How can you share your love today for free and for fun?

God of love and freedom. Thank You for sharing Your love with me for free and for fun because You are good, not because I am good. Please heal my hurts, habits, and hang-ups so that I may freely love You and others as You love me and the rest of the world. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will not mine always materialize, now and forever. Amen.
