First Understanding Then Wisdom

What is wisdom, and how do you get wisdom? Those are both great questions. What is understanding, and how do you get understanding? In our scripture readings today, we read about the search for wisdom and understanding between Pharaoh and a Hebrew man named Joseph. Because of the wisdom granted by God through Joseph, he was able to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams and what was to take place in the land of Egypt over the next fourteen years. Joseph had the wisdom and earned the reputation as a dream interpreter. Joseph became second in command in all of Egypt because of his great understanding and wisdom of interpreting dreams. Wisdom and understanding become valuable assets to obtain. But how do you get them? Knowledge + Experience = Wisdom. Proverbs says we must pursue understanding first, and through that process will breed experience, and experience will give birth to wisdom.

  2. Would people say you are wise?
  3. How would you define wisdom?
  4. Where did you get your wisdom?

Prayer

Grant me, Lord, the willingness to see understanding first, then wisdom to face the difficulties along my path and allow me to feel and see Your comforting hand amid these troubles. Bless me with a faith that gives me the confidence to face difficulties unfazed, knowing that Your plans are always perfect. In Your Spirit and Name. Amen.
