When it comes to change, how do you measure up? Are you an idealist or a change-maker? Does change scare you, or do you embrace change? Most of us want to know the outcome before we endorse the change. Change breeds fear and uncertainty. Traditionalists balk and rebel at the thought of change, while the younger generation shouts for change. There are many breakrooms and happy hour know-it-alls that solve the world’s problems every day. Monday morning quarterbacks sound off on the radio and social media, spewing out “They could have if they would have, and they should have” analysis about last night’s game and what the teams need to change to get better. We are all idealists for change, but how many of us are changing the world?
A wise man once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi. God gave the people a firm commandment, a double commandment, “Love God, Love Others, Change the World.” God calls us to be into action providing love and service to God’s kids everywhere, not sitting around complaining about the state of the Nation and vomiting our grandiose ideas for change all over whoever will listen. What you can do to change yourself and the world is not the question. The question is, “what will you do?” What will you do, starting today, that will make a BIG difference in how your life turns out and makes the world a better place?
God of love and service, thank You for the ability to change. We are not like trees, stuck in a permanent place, yet you grant us the ability to grow and change like trees. Your cherished servant, Saint Mother Teresa, would say, “remain green because green things are growing.” Please help us be the change You desire in the world. Please help us understand and remember that the change You wish to make in the world will happen through the people and by the people of the present day. Please grant us the ability to grow and change, so we can help You make the world a better place by living lives of love and service. In Your Spirit and Name, we pray these things. May Your will not ours always materialize, now and forever. Amen.
