Almost But Not Yet
Many religious people celebrate Advent leading up to Christmas, celebrating and illuminating the advent wreath with the five participatory candles of peace, hope, joy, and love followed by Christ’s candle on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. This holy tradition has taken place since the 5th century. The almost but not yet language celebrates the birth of Christ and the 2nd Coming of Christ, where the kingdom will be restored on earth.
Immanuel means God with us, and by way of a virgin birth. God chose to send His only Son to come into this broken world, fully human and fully divine, to reveal to us the true character and nature of God. Those key characteristics being justice, righteousness, and shalom/peace. Lord, I may or may not be a religious person, but I believe in a Higher Power, Intelligent Design, a Define Intelligence, a Supreme Being. Help me know You deeper during the season called Advent to experience the fruit of peace, hope, joy, and love in my life, and the willingness to share that fruit with others.
Every human being is a work in progress. Some are regressing, others stagnant, while others are growing in understanding and effectiveness in the world of the Spirit. God of all creation, help me grow in Your character in a way that pleases You and is of maximum service to the people about me.
